Timai El Amdid is located in the delta region near the city of Mansoura, northeast of Cairo. It’s about 2 to 3 hours drive from Cairo (4 to 5 hours with police escort). The dig house is a 5 to 10 minute bus ride from the Tell where we work.
Our accommodation is an apartment building down a small street from the main road. On the ground floor of the building is the magazine where all the artefacts and finds are catalogued. On the first floor there is a local family. We deduced that from the many pairs of shoes outside their door, and from the many cries for mum, that this family has a lot of children. One of the youngest kids there would always yell out hello to us from the balcony when he sees our truck or bus pulling up in front of the house. Super cute!
