Is it something technical?

  • Power cut, computer dies, your powerpoint presentation decides to freeze: Ask for help! The organisers of the conference probably have a backup plan for such cases. Even if not, there might be somebody in the audience with more experience and a cooler head than you.
  • While they fumble with the technical stuff, you have time to entertain the audience further. Either you decide to continue with your presentation even without the slides. Or use the time to talk about something related to your topic that you expected to not have time to talk about. Or tell a funny story from when the car broke down on your last research trip. If you do not feel like doing any of these things: Leave the stage and take a sip of water. Then return with a smile and new energy.
